List of Top 10 Bollywood Heroes of the year 2011
04 months ago
From He-Man to funny man, from flamboyant to sombre – Bollywood’s top notch actors have shone on the silver screen in various avatars and also kept the cash registers ringing. IANS lists the top 10 actors of the year:
1) Salman Khan – He should be titled hit khan. If Bollywood’s knight in shining armour bailed the industry out in 2009 and 2010, he boosted the box office business this year too with “Bodyguard” and “Ready”. In both, neither the content was premium, nor were the performances superlative, but what helped the actor stand out were the big bucks his films yielded at the box office, strengthening his position as a bankable star.
2) Aamir Khan: What one missed in Salman Khan’s films was prominently present in Aamir Khan-starrer “Dhobi Ghat”. Aamir wowed his fans as a lonely painter in the directorial debut of his wife Kiran Rao, who deftly handled a bouquet of stories, travelling across various sections of society in the lanes and bylanes of Mumbai. The actor had just one release, that too, consciously designed for niche audiences, but everyone eulogised it, saying, “Wow! What a performance! What an actor!”
If that were not enough, Aamir was admired for daring to produce adult comedy “Delhi Belly” and the film’s success further strengthened his image in volatile Bollywood.
3) Ranbir Kapoor: If his great grandfather, grandfather and parents are admired and respected for their cinematic genius, Ranbir Kapoor has proved that he is a true torch-bearer of the Kapoor khandan. The youngster excelled in his only release “Rockstar”, which was marred by a bad script. His role required a range of emotions and he stood out in every scene and kept the audiences hooked.
4) Shah Rukh Khan: Romance is his forte! But this time Shah Rukh Khan donned the garb of a superhero in “RA.One” to woo his fans. Though the film was not appreciated much for its content, his fans liked him as a geek scientist and as a superhero. He also earned praise for the use of technology, innovative marketing and promotional techniques to promote his product.
5). Amitabh Bachchan: Retirement? No way, says Big B. Instead he is grabbing central roles at the age of 69 and this year too he came out with two films “Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap” and “Aarakshan” – as different as chalk and cheese. If the former saw him as a flamboyant underworld don, the latter featured him as a college principal fighting for the rights of students. In terms of business, neither were money spinners, but as far as acting is concerned, Amitabh is Amitabh. He was terrific in both the roles and critics gave him a thumbs up.
6) Farhan Akhtar: When there is a huge star cast, it is not easy to make an impression. But Farhan Akhtar did that in “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”, which also starred Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan. The art of acting is all about sensitivity, emoting, feelings -and Farhan got them all right.
7) Hrithik Roshan: Usually seen in over-the-top roles, Hrithik Roshan for the first time did a role that was slightly offbeat and closer to reality. If “Kites” didn’t allow him to fly high in the sky, his performance in “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” helped him unleash his potential as an actor.
R. Madhvan: An NRI, who belongs to a middle-class family, returns home to find a wife. He encounters a drunken girl, who is not interested in marrying him. But her spirit is such that he falls head over heels in love with her and it becomes heartbreaking for him to let her go with some other guy. Madhavan not only suited the role, but he revelled in it, earning plaudits from both critics and fans.
9) Abhay Deol: He emerged as the dark horse. Be it a doomed lover in “Dev D” or a smart thief in “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye”, he has effortlessly carried his roles in the past. He continued his winning streak as a confused lover in “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”.
10) Saif Ali Khan: This Khan showed his sparks in “Omkara” and after that he embarked on a journey that showed his versatility. This year he had just one release in “Aarakshan”, which was not a super hit, but the film’s box office performance didn’t overshadow Saif’s work. Critics felt he scored very highly in sincerity, subtlety and sheer screen presence as a Dalit boy in the movie, highlighting the reservation issue.

Abhay Deol shoots extra scenes for ‘Shanghai’
04 months ago
Dibakar Banerjee’s “Shanghai” was set for a Jan 26 release, but the filmmaker has decided to delay the event and shoot extra scenes with actor Abhay Deol.

Banerjee saw the wisdom of revising his narration, and that too quite radically.
“It is not just cosmetic additions to the screenplay. The extra shooting considerably alters the mood and the content of the narrative,” said Banerjee.
Isn’t it an unusual practice?
The director expressed surprise: “But I’ve done it in the past as well! Finished a film and then revised and added footage to the narration. After completing the entire shooting and post-production of ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’, I had summoned Abhay again and shot extra scenes.”
“I’ve done the same again this time. You see, sometimes after you think you’ve completed your film and you look at it in totality, you find you’ve missed out on something vital.”
Banerjee admits the additional footage for “Shanghai” would entail extra expenditure and a delay in release.
“We will miss our January 26 release. But that’s okay. The important thing is to take every film as close to what you had envisaged it in your mind rather than be blindly true to your screenplay and put a lid on the project even if it looks unfinished to you,” he said.

Dev D couple team up!
They first teamed up in Anurag Kashyap's 2009 hit Dev D. Later, Zoya Akhtar got them together in this year's biggie, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
And now, actors Kalki Koechlin and Abhay Deol are set to team up again albeit in a different setting. The NFDC Film Bazaar has managed to rope them in together for a debate on the topic, 'Are new age filmmakers trendsetters?' on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), that kick-started in Goa on Wednesday.
Confirms Nina Lath Gupta of NFDC: "We are happy that Abhay and Kalki will be a part of the talk, along with Zoya (Akhtar) and Sanjay (Suri). They are wonderful people and will add a lot of value to our discussion on cinema. It's a very exciting thought for all of us."
Abhay and Kalki have already been informed about the subject. Film Bazaar aims to understand the mindset of new age contemporary filmmakers who are pushing the creative envelope through their experiments with different ideas and interpretations of reality.
Besides Abhay, Kalki and Zoya, actor Sanjay Suri will be a part of the s panel as well. Kalki, though, won't be alone at the event. Her husband Anurag Kashyap has also travelled with her to be a part of Film Bazaar's discussions.

Abhay Deol's upcoming movie, Shanghai, directed by buddy Dibakar Banerjee, is being billed as the story of common man's aspirations.
Abhay asserts that the film's incidents are based in a small town of India and it Apathy is at an all-time high. Anyone who lives in this city works really hard for sustenance. Actor Abhay Deol highlights every common man's desire to lead a better life, have smooth roads to ply on, and decent infrastructure facilities.
"But isn't it easier said than done?" quips Abhay, who rues that Mumbai's infrastructure is crumbling by the day with issues like potholes on roads, bloating population and escalating poverty continuing to plague the metro. "Apathy is at an alltime high. Anyone who lives in this city works really hard for sustenance. It's the survival of the fittest. At the end of it, are we satisfied with what we get in lieu of our everyday-struggle?"
Meantime, the younger Deol, who plans to shift base to Goa, is content with unconventional roles, insisting he doesn't set boundaries when it's about choosing projects. "I don't tie myself down. Manorama Six Feet Under was an offbeat film. Ek Chalis Ki Last Local was a laugh riot. Socha Na Tha was a rom-com. Dev D had gripping drama," elaborates Abhay, who had his first commercial hit this year, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. "The only common factor is that all the films are content-driven. And that's what matters to me." Abhay will be seen in Rock The Shaadi and Singularity next year.

Lisa Haydon Bollywood fundas
Model-turned-actor Lisa Haydon’s latest outing in a Bollywood film may not have producers and directors queuing outside her door, but the leggy lass is hopeful of a bright future in Tinselville. Lisa says that she has achieved a lot more than she could have hoped for, in the few years since she shifted base from Australia to Mumbai. A brief role in Aisha, starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol and now Rascals, with Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, she insists it’s not a bad start.
Talking about the item number she did in the movie, Lisa says that she is a trained dancer, so any opportunity to put her skill to good use is welcome. “I also did a commercial where I had to shake a leg with (actor) Hrithik Roshan,” she reminds us. And the experience, she insists, was simply fabulous. “Hrithik understands dance a lot. So it was great to match moves with someone so passionate about dance. He doesn’t look at dance as just another aspect of his profession, he really loves it and takes the effort to be perfect. I like that, it inspired me to put my best foot forward too,” says Lisa.

EK CHALLIS KI LAST LOCAL, a film that turned out to be a surprise hit in 2007 which also garnered the support of the critics, did not only launch the career of Director Sanjay Kandhuri but resurrected lead actor Abhay Deol career giving him his first considerable hit.

VIVEK OBEROI
However, for the sequel, director Sanjay Kandhuri has decided not to repeat the lead actor and has finalized Vivek Oberoi for the same who seems to already have his bag full with potential hits like ZILLA GHAZIABAD and the eagerly awaited KRRISH 2.
It was earlier reported on several occasions how four years after the release of the first film writer-director Sanjay Kandhuri has finally worked on his dream project and approached Vivek for the same. The director to get VOs approval went all the way to Wai where VO was shooting for ZILLA GHAZIABAD and that's where he got the nod for the script.
after the success of the first film the director wanted to do a bigger film with A-list actors as he has a bigger budget and wants to make an out an out commercial film. That's the reason he has selected Vivek to act in his next. The source goes on to add that the sequel will be a commercial comical thriller but unlike the first film that was based in Mumbai this will be based in Delhi and will have the protagonist miss the last local and for the same the film is titled 'GYARAH CHALLIS KI LAST METRO'.
On talking to Sanjay he states, "Yes I have finalized Vivek for my next film but it's too soon to divulge any further details, will let all know when the time is right."
The film will be produced by Amit Chandrra under his banner Invincible Entertainment Pvt Limited. Amit Chandrra had earlier co produced KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK along with Farhan Akthar.
