Bollywood’s style statement at the Oscars
01 month ago
As Aishwarya put on the ritz on the glamorous Hollywood floor last year, hubby Abhishek was by her side flaunting his suave side and debonair personality. Sashaying around hand-in-hand, the couple left no stone unturned to represent the B-town fraternity in the best way possible. While Ash opted for a bling Armani Prive floor-length gown, Abhishek looked dashing in his tux. Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan followed suit (or the same-styled suit) in 2009. Can’t blame them, considering men don’t have much variety when it comes to style, but we must say we are quite proud of our Bollywood men for walking around with their head held high and displaying a sense of honour when it comes to being representatives of Indian cinema. AR Rahman opted for a tie rather than the quintessential formal bow for the prestigious award function.

Aamir Khan on the other hand kept it ethnic at the 2002 Oscars. Although his movie failed to win an award, the stickler made sure he was at his ethnic best at the event. Covered from head to toe in a stylish black sherwani and churidars with ex-wife Reena Dutta as his arm candy, Aamir finally graced an award function with his presence, with a slick style statement and an amazing attitude.
Although Freida Pinto and Dev Patel aren’t exactly from Bollywood, we include them in our list for the sole reason that they have connections with India. Freida floored fashionistas with her blue John Galliano gown and Mr Patel looked dapper in a bow tie tux.
Even though AR Rahman and Anil Ambani – velvet suit and all – have been part of this year’s awards, we hoped to see more filmi faces do the walk of all walks. They did not, sadly. But it’s no big deal, wethinks, ‘coz we have already left our footprints on the spick and span Oscar floor.

Problems between Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor?
Now that SHOOTOUT AT WADALA is definitely happening with plans all set to be executed for the film to go on floors, the hand shake between Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor has turned out to be for real. Close to half a decade after problems were reported between the enterprising producer and the director known for his stylish movie making, all is certainly well between the duo. Moreover, even though the hunt for actors continues with only Anil Kapoor and John Abraham on board with Vivek Oberoi no more a part of the project, Sanjay is confident that with Ekta, he would manage to cross all the obstacles and come up trumps.

"For Sanjay, it is a big win for him and Ekta to come together again since there were a lot of negative forces around him that came as a hindrance in his movie making plans for all these years. After ZINDA, he just couldn't get started on a new project once his problems with Sanjay Dutt erupted in a big way. Even those who were supposed to be his friends deserted him and there were also reports around him and Ekta having a fall out after working together in SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA. Monetary issues was said to be the bone of contention and other than Dutt, even Ekta was said to be miffed with him!

Mithun: I’m playing Anil’s character in LAADLA remake
02 months ago
Actor Mithun Purandare made his debut in the festival film called KAASH HAMARA DIL PAGAL NA HOTA. He was then seen in MUMBAI GODFATHER opposite Seema Biswas. He has acted in theatre with Ansh Group and Makarand Deshpande. He is also an ISSA Certified (USA) personal trainer working with exclusive clients.

Mithun is currently working on Nitin Manmohan's LAADLA remake. When we asked him about the project (and if he was playing Anil's character), he revealed the exclusive details. "I got a lot of offers after my initial projects but they were on similar lines, so I decided to wait for the right film. It's true that I play the role enacted by Anil Kapoor in LAADLA, while Mugdha Godse will enact Sridevi's character. The film is being directed by Rajeev Patil of National Award winning JOGWA fame. In fact being an Anil Kapoor fan I have seen LAADLA twice."
When we queried him about whether seeing the film and Anil Kapoor will influence his acting, Mithun said, "No, not at all. I saw the film as a fan. Additionally there are subtle changes in the script like I play a sports teacher and it's influenced from my real life."
Mithun concluded by telling us that LAADLA (Marathi) remake will commence soon.

Coming soon – Sanjay Dutt as a cop in DEPARTMENT
02 months ago
e may have gone all violent, gory and brutal in AGNEEPATH as the antagonist. However Sanjay Dutt is now all set to get into the other side of law with his next biggie - DEPARTMENT. For audience too it would be a new Dutt in motion as he hasn't played cop for ages. Since his comedies like RASCALS, CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR and NO PROBLEM hardly enticed them enough, they are gearing up to see what Dutt has to offer now while donning a 'khakhi'.

DEPARTMENT movie stills
Says an insider, ''Everyone is donning a uniform this year, right from experienced actors like Aamir Khan (TALAASH), Akshay Kumar (ROWDY RATHORE), Salman Khan (DABANGG 2) and Anil Kapoor (SHOOTOUT AT WADALA) to a relative new entrant like Sonu Sood (MAXIMUM). Now it is time for Baba to show his true colours. He has rocked in DEPARTMENT and would make a smooth transition from being a villain to a hero. The one who is all set to be benefit is Ram Gopal Varma who would be happy to get a bona-fide hit under his belt.''

Is the film industry now a divided house?
The recent unfortunate happenings in the film industry has made us nostalgic and got us thinking. We are reminded of what the old timers in the media used to tell us about the early days of superstars in Bollywood.
It is true that even in the days of the three greats- Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, there used to be camps, loyalists and lobbies, but then the competition used to be healthy. The industry used to be above all that and united. On his 90th birthday last month, the thespian Dilip Kumar recollected how he, the late Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand used to talk a lot to each other and the channels of communications never broke, even when some differences cropped up.

AAMIR KHAN, SALMAN KHAN, SHIRISH KUNDER, SHAHRUKH KHAN and HRITHIK ROSHAN
Cut to the 80s and once again Amitabh, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna never had any bitterness towards each other and just as today, makers used to have their favourites. The same was true with Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff.
One can even recall the entry of Hrithik Roshan, the biggest challenge to the Khan triumvirate in the early 2000, but upon winning the best actor award (for KAHO NA PYAR HAI) he was generous in his praise for Salman Khan and his gym for his super physique. The three Khans, Hrithik, Akshay and Ajay, never showed any animosity towards each other. Even the Aamir-SRK 'dog' incident (that hurt SRK's fan) was quickly resolved when Aamir said that he would apologise to SRK's kids if they were hurt.
Cut to the last 6-7 years and all that seems to be a thing of the past and the 'Vivek-Salman press conference', the SRK- Salman spat at Katrina's birthday (after the resolved SRK- Salman-Aish CHALTE CHALTE controversy), the Salman-Hrithik GUZAARISH controversy and now the mother of all, Sunday's unfortunate 'slapgate' involving SRK and Farah Khan's husband Shirish Kunder.
What is even more tragic is that SRK-Salman had made up at Farah-Shirish's wedding! And how can one forget the SRK-Farah friendship, where at one time Shah Rukh Khan had planned a flat for Farah within the premises of 'Mannat'!
The film industry, which used to stand united, in the wake of any crisis, both within and outside the fraternity, in times of war and peace, seems to be a house divided and the bonhomie within, a thing of the past.
However, all is not lost and we are still hopeful that the senior and saner elements to come forward and resolve the issues and unite the industry once again and also snub the elements who try to exploit and divide the film fraternity further, to achieve their narrow ends.

Mohanlal’s ‘Tezz’ cameo infuriated his fans
02 months ago

Tezz is an upcoming Hindi action thriller film directed by Priyadarshan. The film features an ensemble cast; including Mohanlal, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Kangna Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan in main roles. It is expected to hit theatres on 27 April, 2012.
After Company and Ram Gopal Varma RGV Ki Aag, Mohanlal will be back in Hindi cinema with director Priyadarshan's 'Tezz'. When Mohanlal agreed to do a cameo in "Tezz", perhaps he didn't know what he was getting himself, and the film's makers, into. Now that the film is set for release, there are apprehensions that the actor's staunch fan following would take umbrage at their icon's abbreviated part.
Signs of swelling dissent are already evident. The first promotional trailer of "Tezz" has Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor in spotlight, while Mohanlal is seen fleetingly.
This has evoked protest all over micro-blogging sites, creating a mild panic situation in the production team, says a source.
"We never expected this kind of an uproar. Mohanlal has a cameo in 'Tezz', and that's how he was shown in the first promo...in fleeting shots! But the uproar from his fans in the south on Facebook and Twitter has taken the producers by surprise. New trailers are now being planned where Mohanlal will be as prominent as Ajay," said the source.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Devgn has been compelled to share poster space with Mohanlal. In Ram Gopal Varma's "Company", the same north-south divide had transpired.
"Tezz" producer Ratan Jain admits to being taken aback by the uproar. "Frankly we didn't expect this. We didn't mean to undermine Mohanlalji's stature at all. He sportingly agreed to play a cameo part because of his proximity to Priyadarshan. The heroes of our film are Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor. But if Mohanlalji's fans are upset, we've to do something about it," Jain said.
"We're taking care of the situation. The next promo will feature Mohanlalji prominently."
An interesting sidelight to the Mohanlal-Devgn poster war is that "Tezz" was meant to be pitched as Devgn's next action film after "Singham".
But now with the Mohanlal fans demanding attention to him in the promotional footage, it would be difficult to hightlight the action aspect in the plot.
"We're looking into it. We need to be fair to all our actors," said Jain

Sonam Kapoor owes it all to her Dad.

Sonam Kapoor is thankful to her father Anil Kapoor for launching her in Bollywood. She gives all credit of her success to her dad.
“I am here (in Bollywood) because of my father. I am not one of those star-kids who say you don’t know how hard I have worked and that it has nothing to do with my father. My work has everything to do with my father. People treat me with respect because I am Anil Kapoor’s daughter,” Sonam is quoted as saying by a news agency.
The actress says, she will never want to disassociate herself from her father’s success, Sonam said, “I am proud of him. It is unfair to my father’s hard work to say it has nothing to do with me.”
“He has been in the industry for 30 years and he has worked for his children and if we don’t bear the fruits of his hard work then who will,” she asked.
Sonam Kapoor was recently in news for showing her middle finger in her upcoming film Players. Talking about it, she says, “the middle-finger gesture is a part of the lingo of the youth now.”
MI 4 Ghost Protocol has just 300 seconds of Anil Kapoor!

Anil Kapoor's fans may be disappointed with his 'gone with the wind' performance with Mission Impossible 4 Ghost Protocol.

As per sources, Anil has a flashing 300 seconds 'short' act in the film's last half.
"His character, Brijnath is a tycoon, who owns a satellite channel in India and is hand in glove with nuclear arm dealers to launch their missiles on USA, through his satellite. Both Paula and Cruise reach Mumbai to acquire the secret codes from Kapoor," said a film critic, who was shocked to find the Indian actor in a minuscule role.
In the film, Brijnath (Kapoor) shows off his big money by throwing lavish parties and gets introduced to Paula Pattson.
"Though Kapoor gets a chance to share a 30 odd seconds screen presence with Tom Cruise. He has quiet an intimate scene with Paula Pattson, which goes kaput in the end, when the lead actress knocks him down with her martial act," adds the critic.
Kapoor appears, when the film is reaching climax and disappears in odd 4.5 minutes.
"It doesn't matter, since Anil Kapoor has encashed all the mileage required with Tom Cruise during his publicity campaign in India. Though he was in film for a few minutes, but accompanied Cruise throughout his India tour off the screen," says a film analyst, who feels it is mission accomplished for Kapoor.
In the past, Indian actors like Mallika Sherawat (her appearance in Myth with Jackie Chan was overhyped) also came as a sheer disappointment since the actress featured in the film for mere minutes.

Robert DeNiro To Visit Anupam Kher In Mumbai Next Year
04 months ago

Tom cruised through India. And now, it’s his colleague from Hollywood, Robert De Niro’s turn to grace the subcontinent. However, this time around, Anil Kapoor will not be playing host to the Hollywood A-lister. Anupam Kher will take over the job instead.
De Niro will reportedly visit Mumbai early next year, primarily to visit Kher’s acting institute and instruct the students there.
Anupam Kher, not willing to reveal too much about the Hollywood star’s visit, said, “All I can say at the moment is that De Niro has promised to be in India soon.”
Kher, who shared screen space with De Niro in David Russel’s The Silver Linings Playboy, revealed how the Hollywood star after the very first shot of the two of them together, called Kher ‘terrific’.
“It was an incredible high. But my biggest challenge was to speak normal unaccented American English so that my speaking voice didn’t stick out like a sore thumb alongside De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Julia Stiles and Chris Tucker.”
