It's not something that has happened for the first time, but no one can disagree with the fact that this is a rare phenomenon, and the person involved is producer Karan Johar, and the case in point involves his two films, AGNEEPATH and EK MAIN AUR EKK TU, from his very own banner, the prestigious Dharma Productions. Well, let us decipher our confusing headline.

When Karan Johar's AGNEEPATH released on 26th January, never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined that his next venture, EK MAIN AUR EKK TU, which was slated to release two weeks later, 10th February to be precise, would have to contend with his still strong Hrithik-Priyanka starrer. But that is exactly what happened as AGNEEPATH managed 7 crore in its third week as opposed to 30.70 crore (1st week) of EK MAIN AUR EKK TU. Moreover, EMAET could not open at some multiplexes of smaller centres because AGNEEPATH was still drawing in the crowd.



Says one of India's leading trade expert, 'AGNEEPATH definitely cut into EK MAIN AUR EKK TU's business, not only at the single screens but also at multiplexes of Western India. Had it not been for AGNEEPATH, EMAET would have surely netted around 35 crore in it's opening week.'

Priyanka Chopra's career is not exactly going great guns contrary to expectations. Instead of feeling over the moon with the success of her last film Agneepath, looks like Priyanka Chopra has hardly anything to cheer about. In the past few months, PC has been attracting attention for all the wrong reasons. From her film, her friends and her love life, everything seems to be attracting controversies.

Her alleged closeness with Shahrukh Khan has cost her more than what she could have imagined. The latest buzz is that Karan Johar has purposely omitted Chopra's name from the list of guests he intends to invite on 'Koffee with Karan' this season.

And it seems her alleged proximity to Shah Rukh Khan has provoked the filmmaker, who is very close with Gauri Khan, to snub the actress. In the last season, PC appeared on the show with actor Shahid Kapoor where she confessed her fascination and love for Shahrukh.

It was also the time when rumours were doing rounds of Shahid and Chopra link-up.

Priyanka Chopra is the lead actress of Johar's latest blockbuster 'Agneepath.' She was sidelined during the promotions of Agneepath as well, because Karan isn't too happy about the rumours doing the rounds.

Even earlier, we have learnt how Priyanka was almost cornered by all the Bollywood star wives including Sussane Roshan, Maheep Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna.

Reportedly, celebrities who are expected to grace the show this season are Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone, Emraan Hashmi, Anil Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor amongst others.

Priyanka is presently working on Rakesh Roshan's Krissh 2, Anurag Basu's Barfi (Anurag too had a problem with PC throwing tantrums) and Kunal Kohli's Teri Meri Kahani opposite Shahid Kapoor.

In December last year, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor, the filmmakers who are also best friends, had announced their co-production venture.

However, the leading lady for the ambitious project remained undecided. Reportedly, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were both being considered for the project. And now, Media has learnt that Bebo has won the battle.

Kareena, who had reportedly opted out of two major projects - Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express and Milan Luthria’s Once upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2 recently, surely had bigger plans up her sleeve. A source close to the film told the newspaper, “Kareena has bagged a very big role in this film. Currently, she is Karan’s favourite. He was very happy with her performance in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, directed by Shakun Batra.”

In fact, Karan and Ekta have apparently had plans to work together for a very long time. The film that has finally realised their dream will be directed by newbie Akshay Roy. It will go on floors by December, this year.

Karan and Ekta, who have been meeting rather frequently to discuss the film, plan to finish the casting of their co-production by the end
of this month.

“Both Balaji and Dharma are considering Emraan Hashmi for the male lead. In fact, Emraan has recently signed his first Dharma production to be directed by Rensil D’Silva.”

Kareena Kapoor is one of the most wanted actress in Bollywood right now. She is in high demand with back to back hits. Kareena is the one actress who has shared the screen with three khans of Bollywood. Her latest film, Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu, produced by Karan Johar, is currently running in theatres and her performance has got raving reviews from critics.

Rumours recently swirled that Kareena is all set to turn a Director soon. Producer Karan Johar is so impressed with the script writing and editing skills of Kareena Kapoor, which he has witnessed while the two interacted during the making of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, that he is considering giving the Bollywood actress an opportunity to direct a film in the days to come. Karan Johar might give Bebo a project to helm after she gets married to Saif Ali Khan.

When our sources enquired the producer about this news and he laughs, before saying, “No, that’s not true at all. As everyone knows, Kareena is a great actor and all she should ever do is act. Honestly speaking, I don’t think I will ever lumber the job of a director on her. She is too beautiful for that.” Apparently, the actor made a few worthwhile suggestions towards the script of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.

Rumour also has it that Karan is looking to cast Imran Khan and Kareena in another film. “I would love to. Their pairing has been accepted and people have loved them. So who knows, very soon, we’ll have a film with both of them again,” he says.

Trade figures have revealed that the Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures film has collected about Rs 29 crore within five days of its release in the domestic market. It has apparently crossed the $2.3 million mark overseas.

Adds the elated filmmaker, “The movie has an unconventional feel and treatment, but yet, it was loved by the audiences. What I especially feel proud of is the fact that I have given the industry and my company two new voices through Karan Malhotra (director of Agneepath) and Shakun (director Batra of Ek Main Aur…) right at the onset of 2012. As for Kareena, we consider her to be our in-house Dharma girl. I am happy to see that she is being praised for her performance.”

Last year, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor, had announced their co-production venture. However, there was no leading lady for the ambitious project. The filmmakers were not able to decide between Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. But now, the project has finally got its leading lady, and its Kareena Kapoor.

A source close to the film told the newspaper, “Kareena has bagged a very big role in this film. Currently, she is Karan’s favourite. He was very happy with her performance in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, directed by Shakun Batra.”

Wondering who the lead actor is? Well, its none other than the serial kisser Emraan Hashmi.
Revealed a source, “Both Balaji and Dharma are considering Emraan Hashmi for the male lead. In fact, Emraan has recently signed his first Dharma production to be directed by Rensil D’Silva.”

Katrina Kaif’s career is at an all-time high.

Great films and loyal friends have put her in the most enviable slot. She has become the industry’s hot favourite.

Probably that’s the reason why producer-cum-friend Karan Johar decided to surprise her with a gift — a swanky Jaguar. Earlier reports suggested that KJo wanted to buy her a Ferrari since he was really touched by the fact that she did the item song Chikni Chameli in his film Agneepath for free.

Katrina’s immense hard work and dedication showed in Agneepath’s item number also floored Karan.

“She rehearsed for hours and days to get those perfect moves,” says our source. And good friend KJo did acknowledge the effort put in by Kaif. “He has been planning to gift her a token of love and appreciation,” says our source.

The Dharma family might be tight-lipped about the Jaguar being gifted to Katrina, but the actress was heard gushing about it recently. Both Kaif and Johar remained unavailable for comments.

Her interest with behind-the-camera activities started with Saif Ali Khan’s production, Agent Vinod. While shooting for the film, she got acquainted with scripting, editing, mixing, music and many other activities involved. By the time she started working on Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu, the actress had much knowledge and was almost like an assistant director on the sets.

The director of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Shakun Batra says that the credit for this goes exclusively to Kareena Kapoor as she understood the role of Riana very early and suggested the necessary changes to make the two characters look distinctive. Adds Shakun, “Only a director can think this way.”

But there is a condition involved if Kareena Kapoor is really keen to turn director. She will not get a chance to be in control right away and will have to first assist a director before making a film herself.

While the offer to turn director may be tempting for Kareena Kapoor, she is at the peak of her acting career right now and it will be interesting to see whether she takes the risk of trying to direct a film in such a scenario.

Off late, Kareena Kapoor is showing too much interest in film making. The actress had impressed Karan johar with her behind-the-scene skills in his latest flick ‘Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu’ and so Karan is all set to give Bebo her own project to direct.

It all started on the sets of her beau Saif Ali Khan’s production Agent Vinod Kareena got so involved in the off screen developments of the film that she decided to learn more about it. Well, EMAET then gave her a platform to learn about scripting, editing, mixing and background music. The actress literally was like an assistant director on the sets of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.

Not just that. The actress also gave many suggestions to improvise Karana’s EMAET and they were incorporated in the script too.

Thus “Karan has asked her to get on board as a formal assistant and then eventually direct a film,” the source tells a tabloid.

Johar to flash his nine gems

Agneepath accumulated almost Rs 120 crore in its two-week run. And Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu made as much as Rs 23 crore in the first weekend. And after the twin success of his two back-to-back releases, Karan Johar is all set to launch as many as nine new projects this year under his banner Dharma Productions.
Interestingly, the two successful Dharma releases this year have been direted by debutant filmmakers Karan Malhotra and Shakun Batra. Media has learnt that KJo will now launch a few more first timers.

When contacted, Karan told Media, “At Dharma, we have already introduced nine directors. We are extremely proud of their films. Taking the train of thought further, we plan to expand our production base and launch many more first time filmmakers in the immediate future.”
And surely enough, KJo’s plans for the year include a lot of fresh talent — in acting as well as filmmaking.

Firstly, in his maiden co-production with good friend Shah Rukh Khan, Student Of The Year, KJo is all set to direct three new actors — Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.The filmmaker will also launch Dharma talent Sonam Nair as a director this year. For his co-production with Ekta Kapoor, KJo has roped in debutante director Akshay Roy. Ruchi Narain, who had earlier directed Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow, is also being re-launched by KJo, this year.
