ISI promoting piracy by banning Agent Vinod

0

Nobody’s saying it, but in asli cloak and dagger style, the real reason behind Agent Vinod’s shocking ban in Pakistan is supposed to be that nation’s dreaded premier intelligence agency – the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

A reliable source from Karachi told Dailybhaskar.com that ban on the release of Saif Ali Khan’s film on Friday, was done in by Pakistan's Central Board of Film Censors, entirely on the orders of the ISI. Alarmed at the manner in which Agent Vinod shows the Pakistani Army’s involvement with the Taliban and Afghanistan, plus the assassination of the ISI chief, and its tacit encouragement of terrorism in India, the intelligence agency put its hob-nailed foot down.

While Saif, who co-produced the film, sought to play down the ban and made light of the Rs 1 crore loss Agent Vinod would suffer due to this restriction in Pakistan, the truth is the piracy market run by the Pakistani mafia and the fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s associates is all set to churn out pirated copies of the film on DVD, VCD and pen drive formats which will fetch them around 10 to 15 million (Rs 1.5 crore) in the first four days at local markets.

Agent Vinod banned in Pakistan… Saif calls it a shame!

Pakistan’s Censor board has banned the release of ‘Agent Vinod’ in her country. Saif Ali Khan calls it a shame.

Why is the film banned in Pak?

Well, since the film contains references to the ISI that is likely to hurt the sentiments of Pakistani people, the film has been banned.

“It is a shame that the movie is banned, with no offence to anyone, as the idea is to have open films between the two countries.
I was proud that this film was to release there,” Saif said at an event.

“In fact the heroine in our film is a Pakistani girl. We were hoping that they would appreciate that,” he added.

Saif plays RAW agent in the film alongside girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. “Agent Vinod” has drawn references from the real-life tension between Pakistan and India.

“This is a realistic kind of a thriller. We have shown that there are some negative elements in Pakistan towards India and their Censor have a problem showing that. “We have shown a few most-wanted criminals, those that are harbored in Pakistan, which is a known fact. May be they have taken offense to that.

But ultimately we want a RAW agent to win and baddies to lose. “If they are uncomfortable with that then they should publicise that fact that they are banning Agent Vinod in Pakistan,” said Saif.

“Pakistan forms a large portion of our audience. The minute you put a censorship or ban, people will make sure they watch it. And we want them to see the film. In fact we wanted them to see the mujra performed by Kareena. “It is a shame that they could not see the film in the best way possible. But we tried our best,” said Saif.

Agent Vinod releases in India on March 23.

Actor-producer Saif Ali Khan who is pinning high hopes on "Agent Vinod" has said it is a shame that Pakistan's Censor board has banned the release of "Agent Vinod" in that country. "In fact the heroine in our film is a Pakistani girl. We were hoping that they would appreciate that," he added. The 41-year-old actor, who plays a RAW agent in the film with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor in the female lead, said that "Agent Vinod" has drawn references from the real-life tension between Pakistan and India.

"This is a realistic kind of a thriller. We have shown that there are some negative elements in Pakistan towards India and their Censor have a problem showing that. Saif-Kareena's much awaited spy thriller "Agent Vinod" directed by Sriram Raghavan is slated for release on March 23rd this firday. With two days to go for the films worldwide release, news is that the film has been banned for public exhibition in Pakistan.

The censor board hasn’t passed the film as the movie contains references to the ISI that could hurt the sentiments of Pakistani people and its highly unlikely that Agent Vinod will release in Pakistan.

A statement from IMGC Global, the Pakistani distributor of the film, confirmed that the movie had been “banned by the censor board of Pakistan”.

A spokesperson for the Karachi-based Atrium Cinemas chain too confirmed that the movie would not be released on March 23 as it had been held up by the censors.

There was no official word from the board but sources told PTI that the film, which centres round the exploits of an Indian spy played by Saif Ali Khan, was banned as it contained references to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) “that could hurt the sentiments of people in Pakistan”.

Leading newspapers had carried advertisements over the past few days regarding the release of “Agent Vinod” in cinemas across Pakistan on March 23.

However, cineplexes in cities like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi stopped sales of tickets for the film today after learning that it had not been cleared by censors.

The statement issued by IMGC Global quoted the firm’s chairman, Amjad Rashid, as saying that “Agent Vinod” had been banned “due to the contents of the movie”.

Pakistani artists ruling Bollywood!

0
The likes of Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, to name a few, have already made their mark in the competitive world of Bollywood.

Be it casting in the films, or delivering "hit" tracks for those very films, these Pakistanis have surely kept us quite entertained. This trend dates back to the era when Mehdi Hassan gave the most soul-stirring hits to the Indians.

Crossing over the border and making their presence felt in Bollywood with its larger viewer base and far-reaching influence has really helped these artists reach the peak of success in their respective careers. Their consistent work in the industry has lived upto the viewer's expectations and helped them prove their worth in the cut-throat entertainment business.

Ali Zafar's dashing looks, crooning voice, and acting talent has garnered him quite a fan following. His diverse roles in Tere Bin Laden, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and the recently released London Paris New York have got him critical acclaim as well as commercial success.

In the case of the famous uncle-nephew singer duo, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, their position in Bollywood as the Sufi authority is unparalleled. Not only have their soulful voices gained them commercial success, but has made them a household name in India.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, in particular, has been particularly active in Bollywood with movies such as Paap (2003), Singh is King (2007), My Name is Khan (2010), Dabangg (2010), among others, featuring his voice.

The man with the boyish good looks, the heart-throb who has mesmerized millions across the globe with his voice, the "Doorie" singer, Atif Aslam, is not far behind his counterparts. He too has made a place for himself in Bollywood with one of the highest female fan following shadowing his every move!

Continuing with the long list, others who have made a spot for themselves in B-Town include singer Adnan Sami and the recent controversy queen, Veena Malik.

One can only speculate over the reasons for these talented and gifted artists to migrate over the border; whether it be due to political tensions or the limited career expansion opportunities in Pakistan or for personal reasons, we sure are glad for their arrival!

Bollywood definitely like to thank them for providing us with countless hours of entertainment!
