Rana – ‘Department’ will be RGV’s most stylish film
01 month ago
Ramgopal Varma’s Department starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati is a story of Underworld and how a department consisting of special cops is summoned to tackle them.
RGV's past few projects have failed to rock the box office, but actor Rana Daggubati, who has teamed up with the director in "Department", is confident that the film will turn out to be one of his most stylish movies.
"Ramu (Varma) dabbles in a lot of genres of films. He is very good with his work, and has a wonderful storytelling pattern, which is most often trendsetting. His film 'Satya' broke stereotype, and 'Company' gave Vivek Oberoi such a great launchpad...I think 'Department' will be one of his most stylish film ever shot," Rana told IANS.
In "Department", the southern star will be seen as a grungy policeman - a role that was earlier reserved for Abhishek Bachchan. The film's characters include a don, a gangster, a gangster-turned-politician, and shootout specialists. No wonder it was exciting for Rana to work in it!
"I think Ramu is one filmmaker who has complete understanding of the subject he tackles in his films and likes to accumulate extensive knowledge before venturing out into each theme. Be it underworld or any other subject, his films speak of the research he does.
"Usually Ramu shoots his films quickly, but he has spent a lot of time on 'Department', which is great. It's a project close to him, and it has been a fantastic experience working with him," he added.
Rana, who made his Bollywood debut in "Dum Maro Dum", will be seen with Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt in the movie, releasing May 18.
He is also upbeat about the action sequences in the film."'Department' is a heavy-duty action film. I trained a lot for it, and the training was just in the gym. It had a lot to do with marshall arts, and I easily had 10 to 15 action sequences. So it was fun," said the 27-year-old.

Problems between Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor?

Now that SHOOTOUT AT WADALA is definitely happening with plans all set to be executed for the film to go on floors, the hand shake between Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor has turned out to be for real. Close to half a decade after problems were reported between the enterprising producer and the director known for his stylish movie making, all is certainly well between the duo. Moreover, even though the hunt for actors continues with only Anil Kapoor and John Abraham on board with Vivek Oberoi no more a part of the project, Sanjay is confident that with Ekta, he would manage to cross all the obstacles and come up trumps.

"For Sanjay, it is a big win for him and Ekta to come together again since there were a lot of negative forces around him that came as a hindrance in his movie making plans for all these years. After ZINDA, he just couldn't get started on a new project once his problems with Sanjay Dutt erupted in a big way. Even those who were supposed to be his friends deserted him and there were also reports around him and Ekta having a fall out after working together in SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA. Monetary issues was said to be the bone of contention and other than Dutt, even Ekta was said to be miffed with him!

He’ll essay Sharman Munjha in Soham Shah’s next, co-starring Vivek
Sanjay Dutt has essayed the role of an underworld don, quite successfully, in many films including Vaastav, Plan, Aatish and Jung. And now, for the first time, the actor will be seen portraying the real-life gangster Sharman Munjha Jadeja from Porbandar, Gujarat. The film will be directed by Soham Shah and co-produced by Ashtavinayak. Interestingly, Shah, Dutt and Ashtavinayak were earlier supposed to work on the remake of Satte Pe Satta, which has now been put on the backburner.
The official spokesperson of Ashtavinayak Cine Vision confirmed the news and added, “We are extremely thrilled to join hands with Sanjay Dutt productions. The film will go on floors in May. After this one wraps up, we will start work on Satte Pe Satta.”

Sharman Munjha was better known as the Robinhood of Gujarat. The Munjha family ruled Porbandar and other places in Saurashtra in the 80s. “Soham came up with the idea of making a film on Sharman,” Sanjay Dutt loved the idea so much that he readily agreed to produce the film as well.”
According to the source, the film will also star Vivek Oberoi in one of the male leads. Chitrangdha Singh is likely to play the leading lady. Incidentally, a film Godmother has already been made on the life of Sharman Munjha's wife Santokben Jadeja earlier.
“Soham’s new project will now go on floors on May 2. It will be shot in a start-to-finish schedule. It will be one of the most expensive films of the year,”
